The venue is Landquart, a small town in the mountain region of the Grisons (Graubünden), better known as the scenic background for the legendary children's story “Heidi."

Beginners Beekeeping Course 2012 |

The course will comprise of a day and a half of theory followed by a half day practical introduction to the hive. It is ideally suited to complete beginners or new beekeepers wanting to expand their knowledge. The course will be led by Neil Cruickshank, a local beekeeper. The cost of the full 2 day course will be £70.
Alternatively, you can attend the first day as an introduction to beekeeping at a cost of £35.
The course will only take place if we can get a minimum of 10 participants.

Chris Holme from Bampton near Shap started beekeeping when it was part of the school day some 52 years ago. Chris is very experienced, practical and knowledgable and keeps 15 colonies on two sites. He is one of the most revered beekeepers in our area.

25 members turned up to the meeting hosted by our secretary Joy Rich. The weather was rather mixed but by 2pm there was a slot when the wind died down and it was sunny and hot.

With a gusty wind and heavy rain showers in the morning, I don't think anybody thought they would be looking inside bee hives, including host Andy Burne! Not to be deterred however, Andy had laid out a selection of equipment in his (extremely ordered!) garage and the 22 club members who turned out were encouraged to discuss various aspects of equipment, technique and disease control.
